Ayutthaya is a paradise for anyone who wants to spot temples and ruins in Thailand. The city was the capital of Thailand for more than 400 years and one the most important Asian cities. The influence of the city is reflected in the magnificent temples and Buddha statues from this time. The Burmese army largely destroyed the city in 1767, but still there is so much to see and it can be a cultural highlight of your trip. Ayutthaya is located approximately 80 kilometres (a 2 hour drive) north of Bangkok. You can stay overnight or opt for an organized day trip from Bangkok.
