Beatles Square and State Department Store

Beatles Square and State Department Store

Beatles Square

The Beatles square is the unofficial name for the square located between the State Department Store and the Circus. In the middle of the square stands a monument with on one side you see the four Beatles in bronze; Paul, John, Ringo and George and on the other side a statue of a man that is playing his guitar sitting on some small steps.

It is a tribute to the seventies of the last century when young Mongolians gathered and sang along with Beatles songs that were smuggled into the country from Eastern Europe.

State Department Store

Walk, after your visit to the square, inside of the State Department Store just across from the square. This big department store has almost everything you can think of; clothing, camping gear, a supermarket, electrical appliances and souvenirs.

Tip: take the escalator to the fifth floor (where you’ll find a huge souvenir shop) and sample at the pub on your right some delicious freshly made cinnamon rolls!

Location: opposite of each other on Peace Avenue, one of the main streets in Ulaanbaatars. At the junction with West Selbe Street and Tserendori Street.
