The Chao Praya River is the main artery of Bangkok. For centuries it was the most important location for trade and transport. Quite a number of famous temples and buildings have been built on the banks of the river. You will find Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace (near Ayutthaya). The Klongs (canals) that run through the city, are branches from Chao Praya.
Cruise on the Chao Praya River
A boat trip on the river is a fun way to see the city from a different angle. Easy and cheap are the riverboats, from virtually every major pier you can jump on a boat and you are transported through the city. Buy tickets on board for a fixed amount, no matter how long you are sailing along. The Chao Praya Express Boat is the most popular among tourists and stops at every pier that is located near an attraction.
