Hua Hin is a fashionable seaside resort, approximately a 3 hours drive south of Bangkok, which is characterized by the 8 kilometre long beach full of resorts. Opt for a beach stay in Hua Hin if you do not want to travel all the way to the south (ie there you will find more idyllic beach destinations such as Koh Tao and Krabi) but want to spend a few days at sea.
After the construction of the railway line from Bangkok to Hua Hin (the train goes a lot further down south these days), the city became accessible to city dwellers, including King Rame VII, who built a palace. The current Thai royal family thus still resides in Hua Hin sometimes. Because of the relatively short distance from Bangkok, the seaside resort is a very popular place for people from the city who want to go out for the weekend.
