The oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Bangkok the Wat Pho. It is home to an enormous gilded statue of the reclining Buddha; 46 meters long and 15 meters wide. Furthermore you will find more than 1000 Buddha images on the temple grounds, mostly taken from ruins in Ayutthaya and Sukhothai. Moreover, the temple is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. Wat Pho is 80,000 square meters, the largest temple complex in Bangkok. The temple is the result of a restoration of the Wat Phodharam in 1788 which stood at the same location. The temple was renovated and expanded for the last 16 years under the reign of King Rama III. Wat Pho is located next to the Grand Palace and is opened daily.
