The Ancient Government Building at Yamen Street grants you a glimpse into the historical rooms, courtroom, prison and execution square of Pingyao. Regularly lawsuits are re-enacted for visitors to get an idea of how things used to be here. Just before the entrance to the right you will find the schedule of these re-enactments. Also go climb the tower for a view of the street.
Right in front of the entrance is a stone wall with the image of a dragon on it. This “screen wall” had an important role when it comes to driving out evil spirits.
Consider hiring an English speaking guide at the entrance for a tour of the complex as you’d like to know the details of the various attractions in this museum. The attraction is included in a three day ticket.
