Take a city trip to our exciting capital of Amsterdam! Of course you already know that the Anne Frank House the Rijksmuseum are worth a visit. But what makes your weekend really special? We will list our five favourites here:
5. Explore Amsterdam by water
Amsterdam has no fewer than 75 kilometres of canals and 1280 bridges. So, of course the best way to explore the town is by boat!! A roundtrip is one possibility to explore the city, but it is a lot more fun when you hire your own boat. You’re in control and also completely decide the route. Cruise along the most beautiful places in Amsterdam and take your own snacks and drinks along for a great day on the water!
4. Take the free ferry to “Noord”
Amsterdam-Noord is ‘hot’! Beautiful terraces on the IJ, the newly opened A’dam panoramic tower from which you have the best views over Amsterdam and the EYE Film Museum are all within fifteen minutes traveling of each other. Here you can have a good time in between all the locals from Amsterdam without hordes of tourists surrounding you.
The best places for a drink or bite to eat: Pllek (NDSM-werf), Café de Ceuvel (NDSM-werf), Noorderlicht (NSDM-werf) and Tolhuistuin (Buiksloterwegveer). You can immediately hop on behind Centraal Station, the ferries go back on forth every 5 to 15 minutes.
3. Toast on the view on a Rooftop Bar
Whether you fancy a coffee with a slice of apple pie or prefer gin and tonic in a cocktail bar; Do it while you enjoy the panoramic views! Amsterdam has a few bustling Rooftop Bars where every sip leaves an unforgettable impression. Floor 17 and Blue offer you the cheapest drinks menu. SkyLounge Amsterdam and Twenty Third Bar are slightly more pricey, but perfect for a fancy date ‘in high spirits’. The newest addition is the in May 2016 opened A’dam Toren aan het IJ. Chic with accompanying price tag, but the view is phenomenal.
2. Shopping in the 9 Little Streets
The Kalverstraat with its numerous stores is easy to find by each visitor, But did you know that the city also has nine quaint shopping streets, situated right on the grachtengordel? Just behind the Paleis op de Dam, between the Leidsegracht and the Raadhuisstraat, you will find these 9 little Streets. Trendy clothing shops, unique boutiques, charming cafés, historic buildings and quaint antique shops adorn the streets. Whether your heart is faster beating because of vintage or because of designer stores, this bustling neighbourhood is a must for any shopper.
